Adios Ted: 4 Things to Know About SunTrust Park

Atlanta is out with the old and in with the new. Though you may not want to sit through a (painful) Braves game given their current record, the future is bright with the new and improved Ted, SunTrust Park! Here are 4 things you need to know about this beautiful new beast.

  1. Moola: It is no coincidence that the new home of the Braves is called SunTrust Park. Costing 672 million dollars ($392 million from public and $230 million from private financing), this baby is seen as an investment for the community and by the community, as it will provide over 5,000 jobs, produce $235 million in revenue, and be the financial and social gem to the Battery Atlanta.
  2. Great Expectations: Traditional ballpark setting meets modern amenities. Fans will now be able to access free (and top notch) WiFi (thanks Comcast) and among many other great additions, a rooftop lounge. Above right field, this hot spot will have the feel of a food truck park, feature an indoor lounge, and include different game tables (for those of you who want to relive your glory days, can you say beer pong?)
  3. Ch-ch-changes: If you feel like you’re going to get hit in the face with a baseball even more so than at Turner, you aren’t crazy. In fact, the seats at SunTrust Park will be at least 50 feet closer to the field, in addition to having a smaller number of seats (by 20%) in order to have a more intimate baseball experience. To top it off, there will be a large canopy to provide maximum shade for over 60% of the seats (and it’s the largest one in all MLB fields!)
  4. Save the Date: the Bravos will make their debut at their new home by February 2017, so be sure to grab your tickets now! And the good news is, they range from the very affordable $6 to the higher end birthday present type of ticket at $475.

Cheers to 19 years of Dippin' Dots, Chipper Jones, and Marta filled memories, and cheers to the new and majorly improved home of “America’s (favorite) Team.” May this also bestow a new and improved winning streak upon the Bravos come the 2017 season.
