If you have spent any time at all in Atlanta, you probably have noticed that there seems to be a new construction site on every corner. Ever wonder what new developments are being built in your neighborhood and around Atlanta? Check out our round-up of new developments happening in and around Atlanta this fall.
Hosea + 2nd: Exciting new developments in Atlanta aren't always huge. This East Lake development is located at 2371 Hosea L. Williams Drive, at the corner of Hosea and 2nd Ave. An original streetcar hub, the developers are looking to turn this formerly neglected corner into a walkable, thriving community center by updating existing structures instead of tearing them down. Current residents include Great Good Barbeque and planned spaces include Poor Hendrix, more restaurant space, and a rehabbed office building. Status: under construction
Park over GA 400: The Georgia Hospitality Highway could get a lot more friendly. The Buckhead Community Improvement District has proposed a 1/3 mile long park to be built out of thin air, over GA 400 in Buckhead. The idea comes from Klyde Warren Park in Dallas and would feature green space, a food truck park, and a performance area, with the goal of creating a world-class green space to put Atlanta on the map. Status: proposed
Assembly in Chamblee: This former GM plant was shut down in 2008 and has been abandoned ever since. Integral Group purchased the site last May. The abandoned factory was then demolished and plans for redevelopment include walkable and transit-friendly shopping, lofts and restaurant. Also in the works- a plan to repair and paint 50 oversized tricycles used by the former GM plant as part of a bike share program. Status: proposed
ATLNext: The busiest airport in the world is getting even busier. In March it was announced that Hartsfield-Jackson Airport will undergo a $6 billion, 20-year renovation, possibly the most ambitious new development Atlanta has ever seen. Among the plans are a sixth runway, new cargo structures, a 400 room hotel, and a new concourse. Status: under construction
North Decatur Square: 365 by Whole Foods will anchor this Church Street and North Decatur Road development. Focused on creating more walkability for the 12,000 residents in a one-mile radius, the planned development will feature three restaurant spaces, a four-story apartment building, and plenty of retail opportunities. Status: under construction
Woodward Crossing Boulevard: Falcons play Julio Jones is a principal investor in this Mall of Georgia adjacent suburban Atlanta development. Ivy Creek Partners will open the first phase of this development in the first quarter of 2017 and will feature an entertainment center, 23,000 square feet of retail space, and a 21 story hotel and condo building. Status: proposed
