This week’s OTTP, 4790 Shallowford Road in Roswell, lords over Shallowford Road in East Cobb like a grand dame fresh out of the plastic surgeon’s office. She may date from 1996, but everything’s been nipped and tucked to today’s standards. A glimpse of the newly columned facade standing behind the brick perimeter wall is impressive enough; the aerial photo included in the listing puts the estate-like scale into true perspective. I’m counting at least the equivalent of 5 homes arranged around the central courtyard!
Venerable Atlanta architect Bill Harrison originally designed 4790 Shallowford. The recent remodeling done to the home retained his 18th century aesthetic while adding some showier flourishes, such as the stately Corinthian portico. Perhaps the most intriguing feature of the home is its grassy courtyard, which is enclosed by a mishmash of materials and facades, making it look like an agglomeration that’s occurred over centuries. Or maybe its the 48 ft. heated and lighted indoor/outdoor pool that doubles as a water feature, complete with mirrored ceiling accent. Wait, but what about the ballroom that moonlights as a Ferrari showroom? Ooh la la!
The sheer size of 4790 Shallowford makes it something of a luxury compound, with room to spare. The main living areas are complemented with two guest suites and a separate guest house, so it’s safe to say the holidays are coming to you, like it or not. If you need a break from visitors, the master suite makes a perfect getaway. Set them up in the 26 seat theater, and draw a bubble bath in your oversized, marble-laden bathroom suite. Then retreat to your impressive closet the size of a boutique and admire the way its custom cabinetry and crystal drawer pulls provide the ideal complements for your flawless wardrobe. Okay, now we’re getting carried away. One order of reality check, please.
