First Time Home Buyers - Ryann

With the condo market in Atlanta on the rise, many first time home buyers are turning to attached properties as a convenient option for in town life. Our Operations and Agent Success Manager, Ryann, recently moved into her first condo in Brookhaven. Read about her experience below.

What tools did you use and which did you find most helpful during your home search?  I really relied on the internet, and my parents! My dad is a licensed real estate agent and was extremely helpful during the process.  He would send properties for me to look at, and really made the process a lot simpler.

What one piece of advice would you give any of your friends looking to buy a house?  My biggest piece of advice would be to find an agent you trust. I am lucky enough to work with my dad, who wouldn't let me enter into a bad transaction. Find an agent who will treat you the way they would treat a family member.

What was the worst part of the process? The worst part was feelings like I didn't know what I was doing during the transaction. There were so many details and unknowns that there was no way I could keep track of it all. It was incredibly helpful to have someone knowledgeable walk me through the process.

Why did you decide to buy? I decided to buy after a friend of mine bought a similar condo. I was looking for somewhere to rent in that neighborhood when I heard about her purchase, and after some investigation, I decided I could buy, too.  My mortgage on my condo is less than what renters pay in my complex.

How many homes did you look at before you found "the one"?  I looked at properties in three different condo complexes, and then two units within my complex.

Tell us a little different about the house you bought and why it was "the one". I knew that I wanted a condo for the amenities and so that I wouldn't have to care for a lawn. I also knew that I wasn't willing to spend a lot of time doing major renovations, so I needed something that was move-in ready, and I needed easy outdoor access for my small dog. The unit I ended up buying is great. It was within my price point, and has a lot of nice features (hardwoods, new fixtures), and a walk-out patio to a lawn area.  The amenities are great- there's 24-hour security, an amazing pool and gym, and is in the exact area I wanted.
