Metro Atlanta’s Best Schools and Smartest Zip Codes: Round 2

Posted on 14, August 2012 by csadmin

Here’s our second round of metro Atlanta’s smartest zip codes, as calculated from To be considered for these rankings, a zip code had to score a “perfect 10” for at least one elementary, middle, and high school. So far we’ve looked at Marietta and Alpharetta schools; this time we’ll turn our attention a little further east, and then to the southside of town. All pricing information is current as of August 2012.

30041: Big Creek, Daves Creek, and Shiloh Point Elementary Schools; Pines Grove and South Forsyth Middle Schools; and South Forsyth High School.

30041 is a skinny, long zip code that covers South Forsyth and the area between GA-400 and Lake Lanier. In the past decade the area’s seen a complete transformation from pasture to desirable suburb. Not surprisingly, the real estate here is more expensive than the rest of the metro area, with an average listing price of $332,801 and a median sales price of $260,000.

30028: Coal Mountain Elementary School (9), North Forsyth Middle School, and North Forsyth High School

Okay, so we cheated a little bit, but the fact that 30028 has two out of three puts it pretty darn close. It encompasses a largely rural area that’s west of GA-400 and mostly north of GA-20; on the whole it’s considerably more affordable than the southern end of the county. Average listing price here is $256,636, and the median sales price is $169,000.

30097: Findley Oaks, Shakerag, Wilson Creek, and Abbotts Hill Elementary Schools; River Trail Middle School; and Northview High School

This zip is directly east of Alpharetta’s 30022, and the two form quite the desirable pair. 30097 covers a number of prestigious subdivisions, including the St. Ives Country Club, and even a few OTTPs on large lots. Average listing price here is a hefty $617,577, and the median sales price is $279,700.

30024: Suwanee, Settles Bridge, Riverside, and Sharon Elementary Schools; Riverwatch Middle School; and Collins High School

In an inverse of East Cobb, Suwanee’s elementary schools get all the glory, while the high school end doesn’t shine quite as bright. While a smidge of it is located east of I-85, most of 30024 stretches west of the interstate and includes a portion of the Chattahoochee River and Suwanee’s noted revitalized town center. The average listing price is $381,239 and the median sales price is $230,000.

Peachtree City

30269: Crabapple Lane, Huddleston, Kedron, and Peachtree City Elementary Schools; Booth Middle School; and McIntosh High School

While metro Atlanta’s boundless growth has historically been centered on the northside of town, Peachtree City holds its own as a southside magnet. This master planned community’s reputation as a well manicured, Mayberry-like bubble isn’t entirely unfounded. The schools here are top notch, including the best performing high school in the state, McIntosh. The average listing price is $354,756 and the median sales price is $233,500.
