Our Favorite ATL Comfort Food

We all have those days where we don’t want to do that work out (as the snooze button is pressed), go on that long run before getting the kids ready for school, eat that healthy Tupperware packed lunch at work, and really don’t want to cook a meal after sitting in rush hour for an eternity. Sometimes, however, the effort to go pick up something we really want (but don’t dare to keep in our refrigerator) seems to outweigh our taste buds, or we simply cannot make up our mind, and we end up eating Honey Nut Cheerios for dinner. We feel that pain too, so we’ve compiled our favorite Comfort Food spots in or around Atlanta.

Varuni Napoli Pizza→ As long as you call or order online 30 minutes ahead, you can practically experience the tastes of Italy with their Pako Classic Red Pizza packed with fresh buffalo mozzarella, roasted smoked peppers, Italian sausage, mushrooms, onions, Pecorino Romano, and basil.

The Vortex Bar and Grill→ Though known best as a neighborhood bar in Little 5 Points and Midtown, the Vortex offers take out service, just in case you want to stay in your pajamas and binge watch Game of Thrones. For all of you spicy fans, try the Sriracha Lovr Signature Burger topped with guacamole, chipotle cream cheese, Sriracha glaze, Sriracha sauce, all on Texas toast.

Chick-fil-a→ For just $1.22 (I may or may not know that by heart), you can jump in your car, sit in the drivethru, and if you’re like me, devour one of their Chocolate Chunk Cookies before you hit the first red light. Not only is this the perfect size for someone who just wants to smartly splurge or is having a major chocolate craving, but they are also always served warm, no matter what time of day. If you want to pay as efficiently as Starbucks and earn points to get your next cookie free, download the new Chick-fil-A ONE app, and it won’t even feel like you’re paying with real money (dangerous, I know).

Cafe Intermezzo→ Also known as cheesecake heaven, you can literally walk right in and head straight for the 6 refrigerated shelves filled with dozens of cheesecakes and regular cake. Unless you simply do not like the texture of cake or it makes you feel sick, there is bound to be a flavor that satisfies your appetite. Whether you’re taking the boxes of cake to go or catching up with a friend over some dessert coffee and Caramel Cake, if you’re craving something sweet, you cannot go wrong with Cafe Intermezzo. To make things even better, the slices are generous enough for leftovers.

Mellow Mushroom→ With over 40 locations in Georgia, chances are, there is going to be a Mellow Mushroom somewhere near you and your couch. If pizza makes you feel like you have a brick in your stomach but you are still just craving some salt and grease (and carbs), order the hidden gem of their menu- Pretzels! Baked with their Mellow pizza crust dough, there are three options with sauces and glazes: Garlic Butter and Parmesan with a side of red sauce, Butter and Kosher salt with a side of Mustard, or Cinnamon Sugar and honey. Call and take them to go or share them as an appetizer with an ice cold beer!

Murphy’s→ If you want to look presentable (that’s an understatement) or already have plans to go somewhere but secretly just want some comfort food, go to this Virginia-Highland restaurant and get their Truffle Mac N Cheese. That way, your friends or date can have a substantial meal while you can still enjoy a large side of this ultimate cheesy deliciousness.
