Over-the-Top Property of the Week: The Creme de la Creme at Reynolds Plantation

Posted on 08, August 2012 by csadmin

Reynolds Plantation is one of Georgia's most prestigious lakefront communities, and at the top of its current real estate offerings sits this $13,000,000 behemoth. It's beautifully sited right on Lake Oconee at the tip of a wooded peninsula, and features the kind of amenity level you'd expect of a small resort. Then again, if you're going to drop eight figures on a residence it better be worth it, right? Sure, the Ritz-Carlton Lodge is at your service for dinner and spa treatments, but you might find it doesn't top your little private slice of watery paradise.

If your vision of "getaway" style is a little more elegant than rustic, this is the spot. 1270 Club Cove Drive is done up in a Euro-something style that recalls the bleached building forms of Tuscany - it's a little surreal for rural east Georgia; then again so is the rest of Reynolds Plantation. The rambling appearance of the home is impressive enough from the formal driveway, but the house really reveals its true massiveness from the rear. The entry foyers makes an elegant statement with loads of marble, wrought iron, and a fanciful chandelier. Hmm..are those ostriches set into a niche in the stairwell? Consider them a sign of things to come.

The banquet-worthy dining room is decked out in faux finish, crystal, and an intricate ceiling pattern, sure to impress guests. After the main course, retire to the double height living room, dramatically lit and featuring a mantle piece that's nothing short of baronial. Speaking of castle-like, how about the intricately carved lion consoles supporting the (second) kitchen island's countertop? For that matter, why's there a gazelle peeking at us through that doorway? Turns out he has quite a few friends keeping him company in that barrel vaulted hallway! They lead the way down to what might be the state's ultimate man cave, complete with taxidermy galore, a full bar, pool table, and leather club chairs. Just as moody and masculine is the dark stained office, which looks like the kind of place where big business goes down. On the (literally) lighter side of things there's the massive back terrace, which seems to be where all the fun happens. In addition to being a superb spot from which to take in the beautiful waters of Lake Oconee, it sports a mesmerizing Infinity pool and spa, as well as pavilions for a fireplace and a BBQ pit, not to mention seating galore. Two words: yes, please!
