Help lift the spirits of others this holiday season by getting involved in one of Atlanta’s various charities. From volunteering your time at food banks, helping at community meals, or making donations, there are plenty of organizations that need your help.
These charitable organizations are important to the Atlanta area throughout the year, but even more so during the winter months. Wanting to get involved but don’t know where to start? Here are 7 charities that need your help:
The Atlanta Children’s Shelter
The Atlanta Children’s Shelter offers aid directly to kids. Children are given free day care, support and education while the organization provides services to their families as well. The Children’s Shelter solicits donations in a number of ways. These include monthly scheduled gifts, one-time gifts, volunteer work and many more options such as event sponsorships by groups.
Atlanta Community Food Bank
The mission of the Atlanta Community Food Bank is to fight hunger by engaging, educating and empowering our community. While their core work is food distribution, their efforts extend far beyond that.
Lift Up Atlanta
Lift Up Atlanta’s mission is to provide the homeless and low-income families in the metro Atlanta area with safe housing, food, clothing and other services designed to help them meet their basic needs, to support their education, and to empower them to reach self-sufficiency.
Atlanta Humane Society
As the holidays approach, we look forward to happy times with loved ones. But for so many homeless and abused animals, the holidays will not be happy times. Donate, volunteer or fundraise to help these animals find a home.
The Empty Stocking Fund
Every year The Empty Stocking Fund brings the spirit of Christmas to thousands of children throughout metro Atlanta. Through relationships with wholesale distributors, The Empty Stocking Fund is able to purchase brand new gifts for families in need.
Hands On Atlanta
Every day Hands On Atlanta volunteers are hard at work tutoring and mentoring children, helping individuals and families out of poverty, improving Atlanta’s environment, and more. This organization provides a multitude of options to get involved and help your community.
The Atlanta Mission
There are up to 7,000 homeless people in our community. While many of them find shelter most nights, as many as 2,000 of them are considered “unsheltered.” The Atlanta Mission is all about restoring the dignity and worth of our homeless friends — to help them transform from the inside out. Ending Homelessness is what Atlanta Mission is all about.
