Piedmont Park's "Season of Magic" Kicks Off Its Inaugural Holiday Season

Posted on 16, November 2011 by csadmin

Piedmont Park is gearing up for their first ever "Season of Magic"!  Their lineup of festive activities is a nice change from the usual obligatory Lake Lanier/Callaway Gardens light shows, plus there's Baton Bob!  Proceeds will go to a cause all Atlantans will appreciate: security and maintenance of the park.  Here's the rundown of what magical things are in store for you this holiday season in Atlanta's own version of Central Park.

  • The merriness kicks off this weekend with the "Naughty or Nice" Caroling Parade, led by Baton Bob.  There'll be prizes for the best human and dog costumes, and everyone will get a songbook of festive lyrics.  At each caroling stop the lights will be turned on at a specific park feature, seemingly powered by the joyous singing.  Or something like that.  Your ticket also gets you into the after-party at Park Tavern which includes...
    • Music by a live band, Scars on 45
    • A complimentary cocktail
    • An ice skating session
    • Pictures with Santa
    • The canine after-party at the dog park
      • The parade will be held November 20th and starts at the Legacy Fountain at 5pm.  The after-party begins at 7pm. Tickets are $10/adults and $5/kids.
  • Also for the first time (well, at least in the 21st century), you'll have the opportunity to take a horse-drawn carriage ride through the park.   This will surely be superior to the experience horse-drawn tourists get riding around Peachtree Center.  Why exactly would anyone pay to be driven around a soulless concrete canyon?  Architecture rant, over.
      • Rides will be available from November 20th to January 1st.  Tickets are $20/person, and groups of 3-5 pay only $60.
  • Carousel rides will also be featured at the Season of Magic; a vintage model will go up near Magnolia Hall.
      • Hop on the carousel from November 20th to January 1st.  Tickets are $3.
  • Weekly Jingle Mingle holiday socials are scheduled to take place at Magnolia Hall.   In addition to a different featured DJ every week, enjoy specialty cocktails, classic table games, and holiday themed crafts.  Hopefully they're the kind that involve red and green pompoms.
        • Jingle Mingles will be every Wednesday from 6-10pm starting November 30th until December 21st at Magnolia Hall.  Tickets are $15 and include a cocktail.
  • Holiday Beer Garden: more deets coming soon...
  • Taking in the beautiful holiday lights will always be free!
