In this recurring column, Clicks & Mortar spotlights the homes and estates of the rich and famous that are currently on the market. Behold the latest installment of The Propportunist!
Today’s featured property is the estate of award-winning country music artist George Jones and his beloved wife Nancy. You can even see their portrait hanging over the fireplace in one of the photos! Let’s take a look and see if we can keep up with the Joneses...
Built in 1993 in an imaginative mix of architectural styles (the most predominant of which vaguely references the Greek Revival style), this 4BR/6.5BA residence encompasses approximately 10,000 square feet of down-home goodness to love and enjoy. With 78 cleverly landscaped acres, its tree-dotted hills are perfect for horseback riding, which makes the 9-stall stable on premises that much more convenient. There are two lakes for your aquatic enjoyment and five outbuildings of various types, several of which look to be of the industrial warehouse variety (presumably for manufacturing hits). And all of this splendor is safely ensconced behind two private gated entrances. To give you an idea of just how darn humongous this property is, there are actually two separate caretaker homes that will house the army of hired help one would need to keep up with the maintenance on this place. Staffing demands aside, Jones Manor provides a bucolic respite from the harsh realities of city life--in this case, Nashville, which is a quick 40-minute drive up I-65.
This property has everything an aging country music icon could possibly want in a home. Aside from the usual accoutrements (formal dining room, separate family room upstairs, and a surprisingly pedestrian kitchen with eat-in area), it has some nice bonuses, such as the home office, brick-floored sunroom, and swimming pool out back. But the main attraction in the backyard is the jaw-dropping outdoor kitchen that rivals the ones I’ve seen at luxury resorts. You could have one hell of a cookout at this place.
The master bedroom’s giant walk-in closet has plenty of room for storing your requisite Western wear and impressive cowboy boot collection, and the whimsically painted master bath will give you that fantasy bathing experience you’ve been looking for. The three-car garage’s sparkling floors look clean enough to eat off of, and in the photo you’ll also notice the infamous riding lawnmower. (Here’s a good article that’ll give you the scoop on that little nugget of trivia.)
A 1992 Country Music Hall of Fame inductee and the recipient of scads of other accolades, Mr. Jones has thoughtfully displayed his multitude of shiny awards in a charming wood paneled basement music room. Hopefully the new owner will have a similar cache of glistening baubles to deck this hall with. The property also boasts an in-home barbershop, featuring an intimidatingly large portrait of Mr. Jones, this time sporting sunglasses and popped-collar trenchcoat, presumably wearing a fresh shave and haircut as well.
With a $12.5M price tag, this level of luxury sure don’t come cheap. But don’t start crying in your beer yet--the price is negotiable and offers can include many variables such as additional acreage. Check out the video slideshow, and get even more details on the property's official website.
